Tallulah Falls School Students Donate $650.00

Tallulah Falls School eighth-grade students and National Honor Society donated $650 to Rape Response. The student-run project combines fundraising and community service that will benefit the community. Students research agencies and their needs and then make important decisions about where to donate the money.
The students are empowered to submit ideas for fund raising activities, discussing pros and cons of each and then the whole group makes a final decision on which fundraiser to do. Jeanne Buffington, Executive Director and Dana Chapman, Director of Victim Services visited the school to receive the donation.

TFS President Larry Peevy shared that "we required community services of all of our students because we want them, as they leave here, to become community leaders and very active in commuity projects." Teacher-sponsor, Killeen Jensen says, "It helps them to build self-confidence and responsibility."
Rape Response's mission includes advocacy and education to the community. During the presentation Dana Chapman helped the students to know how the money would be used including clothing for survivors to wear home from the hospital, aftercare at the health department, crisis intervention counseling and financial assistance with food and transportation during court proceedings.
