2010 SEMINAR REPORT

On Friday, September 24th over 140 professionals and volunteer advocates from more than 30 different Georgia communities participated in a seminar increasing knowledge and skills to help victims of sexual trauma & posttraumatic stress disorder. 

 

The event was offered by Rape Response, a nonprofit United Way agency providing a crisis hotline, crisis intervention services, education and advocacy in Hall, Habersham, Lumpkin, Dawson and White counties.  Presenting Sponsors supporting the professional development event were District 2 Public Health: Women’s Health Program and Lanier Technical College’s Criminal Justice Program.

 

Psychological Intervention Strategies for treatment of sexual trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder was presented by Dr. Amy House, a licensed psychologist and associate professor at the Medical College of Georgia in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior. She is currently the Director of a Sexual Trauma Survivor’s Program.

 

Professional fields of participants represent multi-disciplines involved in community response and collaboration to provide services including social workers, psychologists, licensed counselors, nurses, attorneys, law enforcement officers, victim services advocates and healthcare or nonprofit agency managers.  Six Continuing Education Credits was approved for all disciplines.

 

Rape Response has been offering professional development seminars since 2003 to support their mission to serve as a system of support, advocacy and education to survivors of sexual assault.
