Meet our Bloggers!

Hi everyone! Welcome to our Rape Response blog! We’re so excited you’re here, and we want to take some time to introduce our bloggers to you.

Cody Sumner

My name is Cody Sumner, and I’m currently a student at the University of North Georgia majoring in criminal justice. I just started my internship at an incredible non-profit organization called Rape Response that helps survivors who are victims of various forms of sexual assault to receive a wide array of resources that are important to their healing. A few of the services Rape Response offers include their 24-hour crisis line, crisis intervention, medical and criminal justice accompaniment, prevention program, volunteer program, professional programs, and community awareness. Although I have not been interning with Rape Response long, I’ve already witnessed first-hand how well trained and compassionate the staff are, and I’m very excited to grow and learn more from everyone here. Jasmine and I are hoping to share some of our experiences as interns to help you learn more about Rape Response and internship opportunities as well as dive into more topics surrounding sexual assault.

Jasmine Adams

Hey you guys! My name is Jasmine Adams, and I am currently a senior at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. I am set to graduate in May 2021. I am tremendously lucky that I was able to start my internship with a fantastic non-profit organization known as Rape Response in Gainesville, GA. My goal in life is to work as an advocate for survivors of any types of crime. What I love about Rape Response is that they are truly dedicated to survivors of any sexual assault crime that has happened in the past or present. I am looking forward to learning more as this semester progresses and to then be able to use what I learn during this Internship to help survivors as a career. Cody and I are excited to share these learning experiences with you guys to help spread awareness into many sexual assault issues.

Kylie McGuire

Hi everyone! My name is Kylie McGuire, and I am the Outreach and Awareness Advocate for Rape Response. I graduated in December of 2020 from The University of North Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. I had always strived to find a job where I would be making a difference in the world in some capacity, and working here has exceeded those expectations.  With that being said, I am the newbie of the group and have thoroughly enjoyed soaking in the field of advocacy and getting to know the hearts of every staff member here. Just from my short time being an advocate, I have already learned so much and continue to do so as I navigate my own way of ensuring that survivors feel supported and lifted up. I am so excited for this new outlet to provide information and experiences to our community members. We hope you all can take a little piece of what Rape Response has to offer!

Brittany Pirrello

Hey y’all! My name is Brittany Pirrello (she/her/hers), and I’m an advocate and social media coordinator here at Rape Response. I’ve been working here for a year and a half now, and I’ve loved getting to learn and grow through my various roles within the agency. I graduated in 2019 from Valdosta State University (Go Blazers!) with a Bachelors in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish. I started out at Rape Response as a Middle and High School educator, teaching our Let’s Talk © curriculum to the students within our service area. I was fortunate enough to become full time staff and slowly morphed into the social media position right before COVID. I am so excited to be part of this blog, and to share with you more about this cause I am beyond passionate about.  I can’t wait to offer you a glimpse into the ins and outs of Rape Response, including highlighting some of our fabulous community partners. Come along on this journey with us! I’m glad you’re here.
